First Impressions and The Domino Effect

They say you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. The moral of that short story is that if your first impression isn't that great, it can impact your entire relationship with someone. It's like misplacing a domino at the beginning of the chain. It could derail the entire process.

So, how do you get good at good first impressions? The first step is understand your M.A.G.I.C. To recap:

  • M.essage - What's the gist of the message you are attempting to make an impression about?
  • A.udience - Who are you trying to impress and what is of most importance to them?
  • G.rab their attention - What's your WOW factor? How do you stand out from the crowd?
  • I.nvolve their emotions - How can you engage the want, need or desire for what you are offering. Where's their "hot button"?
  • C.all to action - What step do you want them to take and how can you create an urgency around it?
Once you have that down, you can format the message is a myriad of platforms:
  1. VERBAL - The words we use in print and in person
  2. VOCAL - How we sound when we say it (tone, inflection, expression, inflection...)
  3. VISUAL - Our presence, our website, our promotional material - (A picture is worth a thousand words)
  4. VIDEO - Capturing all the above in 30 second to 30 minute presentations (A video is worth a thousand pictures)
  5. VIRTUAL - Sharing all of the above through your website, emails, social media to broaden your audience and your reach.
With all of these dominoes in place, you are well on your way to spectacular results!!
